Informed Choice Directed Donations Benefits of Famliy Banking Role of Public Cord Blood Banks

Informed Choice

The AFCBB strongly endorses the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommendation and recently passed legislation at the federal and state levels that supports the right for all expectant parents to receive fair and balanced education on their cord blood banking options. Expectant parents only have one chance to save or donate their child's genetically-unique cord blood. Expectant parents rely on their healthcare professionals for information on cord blood banking; the AFCBB believes that physicians have a responsibility to educate their patients on their options related to preserving, donating or discarding cord blood stem cells.
